Sync Options

SymTasks provides number of sync options to manage synchronization of your tasks from Outlook. Most of these options are available on the settings dialog in SymTasks Outlook Sync (Windows app).

Sync Direction

Sync direction controls the direction of flow of data.

Two-Way Sync
Tasks from both Outlook and SymTasks will be synced. Only the most recently modified copy of task is kept in both apps. New tasks added in Outlook will be added to Android device and vice versa.

One-Way Sync: Computer to Android device
Tasks will be synced from Outlook to SymTasks on Android device. Any modified task on Android device since last synced time will be overwritten with the copy of task in Outlook. Also new tasks added in Outlook will be added to Android device.

One-Way Sync: Android device to computer
Tasks will be synced from SymTasks on Android device to Outlook. Any task modified in Outlook since last synced time will be overwritten with the copy of task on Android device. Also new tasks added in SymTasks on Android device will be added to Outlook.

Sync Deleted Tasks

If this is checked, all the deleted tasks will also be synced. In case of two-way sync, manually deleted tasks will be deleted both on computer and on Android device. In case of computer to Android device one-way sync manually deleted tasks on computer will be deleted on Android device. In case of Android device to computer one-way sync manually deleted tasks on Android device will be deleted on computer. We recommend leaving this option unchecked unless you are sure about it. Leaving this option unchecked can also increase sync performance if you have large number of tasks in Outlook.

Last Sync Completed

SymTasks keeps track of last sync time in order to expedite the sync process, since there is no need to sync tasks that were modified before last sync. In some cases you may need to reset last sync time to sync all the tasks again, for example, when you switch Android device or computer. To reset last sync time, use ‘Reset Last Sync Time’ setting in SymTasks on Android device.

Outlook Connected to Exchange Server

In case you ocassionaly connect your Outlook client to Microsoft Exchange server (or any other server) you may see some undesirable effects during two-way sync. At the time Outlook client connects to Microsoft Exchange server the last modified time of tasks that were changed since last connection gets automatically reset. This creates problem for two sync since these tasks become more recently modified than they really are. In this case it is recommended that you use one-way sync.

Sync Recurring Tasks

SymTasks supports synchronization of recurring Outlook tasks. Recurring pattern is applied at the time of sync. However, recurring pattern cannot be edited on Android device.

“None” category

For tasks that have no categories SymTasks uses a category named “None”. Outlook shows blank category in this case but uses word “none” often to indicate tasks with no categories. For sync to work properly, it is recommended that you do not use a category named “None” in Outlook.

Note: Keep your clocks on Android device and computer updated for best sync results. It is recommended that you frequently backup your outlook data file.
